This past Sunday, on the heels of the wildly successful High School Girls Sleepover Extravaganza and Boys Paintball Bonanza, came the Big Bold Backyard Barbecue. High schoolers, friends, parents, siblings, and pets were invited to attend. The event was hosted by our wonderful high school leaders, Joel and Katy Paul, at their new home in West Linn. It was the perfect place for badminton, frisbee golf, and wiggly ball, but in the afternoon heat, most people could be seen lounging in the shade, enjoying some excellent grub and getting to know their fellow high school families.
Our fearless leader, Ben, manned the grill and demonstrated his uncanny ability to make the perfect amount of food for a big ol’ mass of people. There was just one lone burger left by the end of the feast!
Cheeseburgers, hot dogs, salads, and more! High schoolers knows how to eat.
To top it all off, there were fresh-picked summer berries, homemade lemon squares and this lovely cherry pie that the high school ladies helped make at our sleepover extravaganza. They really are the best.

With bellies full and burgers gone, it was time for Ben to announce some changes happening within the high school ranks in the coming year. High School Point Leader, Haley, who’s been with the group for just shy of three years will be stepping out of the role at the end of the summer while Joel and Katy will take on leadership responsibilities.
Ben and Haley
It was a tearful moment as Haley thanked parents, students, and leaders for all the wonderful time spent together over the years. It was working with the high school group that inspired Haley to begin classes at Multnomah Seminary last year, and while she will continue to be part of the group throughout the summer, she’ll be devoting herself full tilt to her studies in the fall. From everyone at Imago Dei High School, we want to extend a heartfelt thanks for all of Haley’s service over the years. She’s been an amazing, devoted, wise, and loving leader and we wish her the best as she pursues her education and continues to seek God’s purpose for her.

Tearful goodbyes aside, there was one last item on the barbecue agenda: a quick five minute hike down to the river to cool off.
Lack of proper swimwear will never stop this group from jumping in head first. We love our adventurous group.
Thanks to all the friends and families who came out for this event, and to our hosts, Joel and Katy. The barbecue was the high school group’s last official gathering of the summer until August, but a couple of students have taken it upon themselves to be super awesome and keep the party going with weekly get-togethers and bible studies. For more information on how to get involved contact Ben Tertin at: email@example.com.
And speaking of being super awesome, high school’s annual camping and rafting trip, On the Rogue Again Again, is coming up August 12 – 16. All high schoolers, recently graduated seniors, and incoming freshman are encouraged to attend. For more information visit Imago Dei’s high school page.
