Welcome to our newest blog series! Every few weeks, we’ll be “spotlighting” a member of our community, in hopes that you’ll get to know a bit more about some of the faces you see on Sunday morning, find some common ground, and strike up some good conversations.
Have an idea about someone we should feature? Email email@example.com.
This week’s Spotlight is on Liesl Palmer. If you’ve been around Imago for any length of time, you’re likely to have seen Liesl’s face – she’s participated in too many ministries and events here to list!
Family: You’ve probably seen Liesl with a baby – no, he’s not her son, he’s her adorable nephew Brayden!
Why She Looks Familiar: She may have led your home community, or you may have seen her volunteering around Portland, or in a wedding or three or twelve.
Liesl in the city: Liesl is the founder and owner of Plant Joy, a Portland landscaping company, which allows her to combine her love of nature and her amazing eye for design.
We Asked/She Answered
What is Portland’s best kept secret? The Mansion’s porch on a sunny, warm day- nothing like it. Idyllic, in a word. (Editor’s Note: “The Mansion” is the giant former bed and breakfast in NW where Liesl lives with about a million roommates)
What do you never leave home without? I NEVER leave home without my dog, Benny. Seriously. LIke 96% of the time he is with me… if it’s too hot in the car I tie him up in the shade or bring him inside wherever I am (he’s been in the mall and movie theater multiple times- just look sad when bringing him in). If it’s too cold in the car, I put his winter jacket on him and throw a blanket back there.
What event changed your life? Moving back to Portland from Long Beach, CA changed my life. I am happy to tell the story to anyone who asks but it’s long. Changed. My. Life.
How has God blessed you this week? God blesses me all the time but this week it was financially- I have my own landscape design business and the only way I market it is through word of mouth and referrals. I trust that God brings me the work I need exactly when I need it and it’s such a blessing when it happens. Awesome to witness.
