what is refuge?Imago Dei Refuge provides a safe place where people are able to grow spiritually and gain freedom from their hurts, destructive behaviors, and life struggles as we offer support, education and transformation in the context of community. We believe that God's grace flows through the channels of relationship. For most of these groups there is a focus gathering where everyone is encouraged to consider Christ's healing love: there is worship or some sharing of someone's story of recovery or some biblical truth that brings hope to those struggling with life’s issues. Then small groups will gather together for some education piece, relationship building, accountability and affirmation. Our expectation is that God meets people where they're at, loves them and heals them. In this process we'll be assessing how things are going for each individual, which may include making recommendations, either for professional help of some sort or for beginning to transition into other less specific community groups of our church, or suggesting other places of service. Serving others is also a part of the healing process. If you'd like to take a quick test to see if you should consider becoming involved click here. If you answer yes to four or more of these 18 questions you should contact us to begin the process of becoming a participant with our recovery communities. how does one get into refuge? It all starts with making contact with one of the Refuge leaders or just showing up on Refuge Night (Mondays, 7 p.m., at Evangel Baptist, 29th and NE Flanders). From there we will give you an orientation which will help us suggest where you might best be served. Then you meet the leaders and the group members and things get rolling. what is imago novus?Imago Novus is the class we hold each Monday night while the specific support groups are meeting. Clark Blakeman teaches the class, which covers general themes of recovery. The class is open to anyone and everyone and is for both men and women. Friends and family are welcome to come in support of those in recovery. The class does not require paperwork or an interview. The class is open to anyone at any and every week of the year. People may be in the class as long as they want; if and when you want to transition into a group, all you have to do is ask. do you need childcare? For more information, click here. |
